Tears, tributes as funeral rites for Oyo Speaker begin
Tributes about the humility, godliness, faithfulness, peacefulness, decency, honesty, patriotism and loyalty of the late Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Michael Adeyemo were rendered as his funeral rites began on Wednesday.
These tributes were rendered by the clergy and representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, family of the deceased, judiciary, state executive council, state Assembly, church, landlord association at the service of songs held at Oke Ado Baptist Church, Ibadan.
It was an emotion-soaked event as family members, friends and relations could not hold back tears.
The service had in attendance, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state and his wife, Florence; Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Olasupo Ayokunle; federal and state lawmakers, serving and former political office holders among others.
In his dirge, Mr Sola Adeyemo, on behalf of the deceased family, said the late Micheal was a true family man, serving as father, brother and crown of the family.
While Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Munta Abimbola described the late Adeyemo as an erudite and thorough lawyer, Minority Leader of the House, Honourable Olagunju Ojo lauded Adeyemo’s commitment to religious activities and to legislative work.
Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Mr Olalekan Alli said the late Adeyemo was a key figure in ensuring peace and development of the state.
Especially, Alli said Adeyemo displayed intelligence in converting his political foes to friends.
Chairman, Ibadan branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Akeem Agbaje, in his rendition, said Adeyemo was a true and committed gentleman, humble, bridge builder, benefactor and an asset to the NBA.
Delivering his sermon, CAN President, Ayokunle called attention to the need for human beings to be concerned about living lives of legacies and concerned about eternity rather than vain things.
While lauding the late Adeyemo for being a stabilizing factor in the peaceful governance in Oyo State, Ayokunle urged public office holders to understanding that being right with God was crucial to achievement of a progressive administration.
He warned politicians against accommodating illiterates, hooligans and thugs in their government noting that the nation needed people with the right mindset, builders and repairers of the nation’s broken walls.
Noting that the anger of God was increasing, Ayokunle called for an end to the killings in the country and prayed that those politicians who hold on to witchcraft for their governance to have a rethink.
