PDP Chairmanship : Gbenga Daniel may contest

The race for the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may have taken a new twist as indications emerged yesterday that the former Governor of Ogun State and Chairman of Kresta Laurel Group,  Otunba (Engr.)  Gbenga Daniel may be contesting the apex seat.

Investigation shows that a strong and discreet political group within the leadership of the PDP known as the ‘Renaissance’ have been making emphatic efforts to get the former Southwest National Deputy Chairman of the party, Chief Bode George to step down for a more youthful candidate in the region.

A member of the group who spoke to us under the condition of anonymity due to the nature of the group’s assignment disclosed: ‘We are more concerned about the future of our party and that is while major stakeholders made up of Governors,  Ex-Governors,  National Assembly caucuses  amongst others decided to come together under Renaissance to ensure a fresh start for the party.

We are not unconscious of the new dynamics of politics, hence, our resolve that the party should try fresh hands with new idea”

The member disclosed that the choice of Gbenga Daniel was based not just on his youthful posture but also on his ability to interact freely with members and intending members of the party across every region and political party.

The elective National Convention of the PDP is billed to take place on December 9.
