Omisore finally dumps PDP for SDP
Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun state, has finally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) where he is set to contest the September 22 governorship election in the state.
It was gathered that Omisore announced his defection in a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, May 20.
He said his governorship ambition would be realised on the platform of his new political party, saying he was ready to rescue the state from the ruling All Progressives Congress and out it on the path of property.
The statement reads in part: “Engaging and working with like-minded leadership, we have sought for an alternative platform that will assures both credible and legitimacy that will rescue Osun state from its current reckless misrule.
Our quest for an alternative political platform is basically in pursuit of a credible political structure that would guarantee that our people enjoy the benefits of accountable leadership at the state level from now.
“Notwithstanding my enormous contributions over the past years or so to building the PDP, after very deep thought and the widest consultations with my God, my family, my supporters in and outside Osun state.
It is with great concern that I have made a very expedient decision today, to withdraw my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the Social Democratic Party (SDP); a party that believed in a balanced, equitable and truly functional Nigeria.”
Earlier, it was reported that ten months to the 2019 general election, and with two governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states later this year, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the southwest has been hit by a fresh crisis with three of its chieftains allegedly set to dump the party any moment.
Nigerian Tribune reports that a former governor of Oyo state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja; the immediate past governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko; and a former deputy governor and candidate of the party in 2014 governorship election in Osun state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, are on their way out of the PDP.
The trio met recently and, after reviewing the development within the party, particularly under the Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC), resolved that the impunity which plummeted the fortunes of the party in the zone has not been done away with.
