North Lake College ‘shooting’: Texas police report ‘active shooter’ on campus

Police in Texas have reported a possible active shooter at North Lake College and ordered students to go to nearest room and “lock down” due to an “intruder”.

The Irving Police Department issued a tweet saying there was an active shooter on campus, and advised residents to steer clear of the area. Police and SWAT team officers responded to the scene.

A message on the school’s Facebook page instructed students to proceed to the nearest room and barricade themselves inside.

James Mclellan of the Irving Police Department told reporters there were reports of possible injuries, which he could not confirm. He said the police had received an unconfirmed description of the suspect as a white male with brown hair, wearing a white tank top. He asked concerned family and friends to avoid the area so police could operate.

Local news station NBC DWF reported police were conducting a systematic search for the shooter through all buildings on campus.

North Lake College is a two-year public community college in Irving, Texas. It is part of the Dallas County Community College District and had an enrolment of 11,365 as of 2011.
