Daggash: Outcome of PDP convention predetermined months ago
A front-line member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Sanusi Daggash, has said the outcome of Saturday’s National Convention of the party was predetermined months ago.
Daggash, in a letter to one of the national chairmanship aspirants who withdrew from the race, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, described the outcome of the convention as “unfortunate” and the cabal that will control the party will remain the South East and South South.
He praised Daniel for bringing in all his “experience and resources to the quest of being the next PDP Chairman”.
He added: “Alas the fallout does not augur the PDP any prospects for victory in 2019.
“A regional party cannot win a national election. We believe in spread and representation of individual and collective interests. The convention is won and lost, but your stature will continue to grow with respect, integrity and honour.”
Daggash, in the letter to the former Governor of Ogun State, said Daniel is indeed a presidential material, adding that when zoning permits, he will indeed be a natural candidate in view of all the experience gathered on the field in the last three months of his nationwide campaign.
He added: “Let there be no regrets. You are a leader and you confronted the challenge and was swallowed up in a conspiracy. The roots are indeed very deep unfortunately with the general mistrust of the South East/South South whenever options of power locus is thrown up.
“The convention is not an election but a Coronation of sorts. You went to participate and fight for the Chairmanship but the fifth columnists had already taken their pound of flesh out of the process.
“It is well. Stand tall and be yourself. Leadership comes with its own exigencies.
“We did not lose. The future just is just offloading….
“It is well.”
