2019: Dissolve executive council or risk defeat – Imo APC bigwigs tell NWC

The refusal of many All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Imo to join Uche Nwosu to defect to the Action Alliance (AA) is creating rancour in the Governor Rochas Okorocha-led administration of the party in the state.

There are indications that many stakeholders supporting the emergence of Senator Hope Uzodinma have appealed to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to dissolve the Imo state party executive, due to the defection of some of them to the AA, Vanguard reports.

Nwosu, whose is strongly backed by his father in-law, Governor Rochas Okorocha, had also tried to woo APC candidates and lawmakers to follow him to his new party, so as to achieve his political party, although not all convinced about the future of AA.

Some of the stakeholders claimed that Onwuasoanya Jones, the state publicity secretary of the party, has joined Nwosu to the AA while other members of the state executive are expected to tread the same path soon.

Meanwhile, some diehard APC loyalists, within the rescue mission administration of Okorocha have appealed to the NWC of the party to dissolve the state party executive, following the resolve of the governor and his supporters to stand with Nwosu.

Livinus Osuagwu, a leader of the APC in the state, said: “It will be foolhardy for the NWC of the APC to allow the Imo Executive to remain at this stage.

“We, the entire stakeholders of the APC In Imo State, genuinely working for the victory of the party in the forthcoming general elections are appealing that the state executive be dissolved since the leader of the party in the state, Governor Okorocha has vowed to play anti-party roles in the forthcoming election.

“The chairman of the APC in Imo State, was a Personal Assistant to Uche Nwosu before he became chairman. It is very obvious he will not work for Uzodinma.

The state publicity secretary has already joined AA while others will join soonest”, Osuagwu said. “As a result, for the survival of the APC In Imo State, it is better to dissolve the state executive so we can concentrate properly on our elections to avoid saboteurs.”

Meanwhile, we reported that Okorocha had said the current situation in the Imo state chapter of the APC had made reconciliation impossible.

We gathered that he said that Imo people were short-changed in their choice of who to govern them in 2019, stressing that it is too late in the day for the party to correct the wrongdoing.

While speaking when the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led APC reconciliation committee visited the state on Thursday, November 29, Okorocha noted that Imo people have decided to move on.
